French Creek Press opened its POD doors in April 2009 for just the reasons you stated above - to be able to publish without the tremendous overhead of offset print, from production through distribution. While ours is not self-publishing (we pay the costs, not the author) our authors receive high royalties and are not required to buy a minimum amount of books. By opening this type of publishing company we thought we would receive unpublished authors. Instead we have contracts with published authors who want more from their efforts.
